Thematic and Focus Programs
The core activities of the Institute, helping to fulfil its mission of bringing people together for collaboration and the generation of new ideas in all areas of the mathematical sciences
The primary activities of the Fields Institute are Thematic and Focus Programs - extended periods of deep research concentration on leading topics in the mathematical sciences. These range from one to six months in length and involve long- and short-term visitors, postdoctoral fellows and students, and include workshops and seminars, distinguished lectures, and graduate courses.
The Institute has been encouraging programs within which there is a broad span of activity, from fundamental mathematics to deep connections with computation and applications, and from leading-edge research to the training of students to industrial collaboration
Thematic and focus program are global in their scope, both in the nature of the themes of its programs as well as for the international diversity of the program participants, distinguished lecturers, and program organizers.
