Workshop on Smart Cities, Energy and Sustainability
Description
Cities are growing and the problems are becoming more complex and difficult to address. As cities continue to face challenges due to the accelerated urbanization, the recent innovations and disruptions in information technology are changing the way we live and interact with our environment. Innovations in data analytics are promising solutions to alleviate the high pressure on the urban networks which is mainly due to the increasing population coupled with the aging infrastructure. Cities around the globe are developing smart ecosystems and there is an absolute need for individuals with advanced training in smart cities and analytics. Furthermore innovations in the domain of smart cities present immense new business opportunities. At the core of smart cities is a multitude of peer-to-peer businesses that are currently disrupting traditional economic models and threatening established markets including hospitality, transportation, and energy among many others. This ecosystem of sharing economy is still at its early stages where the technology as well as the prosumers base are developing and maturing. This workshop aims to be the platform for researchers, practitioners, and students to have focused discussions on challenges facing future cities and the sharing economy from the mathematics, engineering, and business aspects.
