The first CRM/Fields Prize was given to Professor H.S.M. Coxeter of the University of Toronto. On September 22, 1995, Prof. Coxeter gave his lecture "Evolution of Coxeter-Dynkin Diagrams". He was awarded his prize by director Luc Vinet . Prof. Coxeter gave another talk for undergraduates. In an overcrowded hall, with people standing along the walls and sitting on the floor, Prof. Coxeter gave a lecture entitled "Euler's formula for polyhedra." It is an experience that will be remembered by many young mathematicians.
