8) Compressible surfaces and volume bounds Juan Souto 
Jeff Brock, Ken Bromberg, Dick Canary and Juan Souto will give an 8lecture minicourse on hyperbolic geometry and the deformation theory of hyperbolic 3manifolds. The lectures will begin with a short introduction to the basic features of hyperbolic 3manifolds, and describe the main structural conjectures which have recently been settled. There will be more detailed lectures discussing the proofs of the Tameness Conjecture and the Ending Lamination Conjecture, the phenomenon of bumping of components in the deformation space (analogous to parabolic bifurcations in dynamics), and further work on obtaining uniform estimates on the geometry of hyperbolic 3manifolds from topological data.
