Shared Graduate Courses Program
Landing page for Information on the Shared Graduate Courses Program at the Fields Institute
Goal
The Fields Academy Shared Graduate Courses Program increases the range of advanced mathematics courses available to students at Ontario universities.
Instructors
Courses taught through Fields Academy are selected from courses offered at the Fields Institute’s Principal Sponsoring Universities. There will be a call for courses in December for the following academic year. Instructors are invited, with the approval of their Department Chairs, to submit their course proposals. The selection of courses will be decided by the Deputy Director in consultation with an Advisory Committee.
The Call for Proposals is now open for 2025-2026 shared graduate courses:

The submission deadline is at the end of day (EST) on Sunday, January 19th, 2025.
Students
Registration Fee:
- Students from our Principal Sponsoring Universities & Affiliate Universities: The courses are free. Fill out the registration form on the course webpage.
- Anyone else wishing to register for a course: Fill out the registration form on the course webpage and pay the CAD$500 registration fee per course. (You will not be permitted to join the course without payment.)
- Admission to any course is subject to the course instructor. Students wishing to register for one of these courses late should contact the instructor first to get permission.
Accreditation:
- Students wishing to take one of these courses for credit should contact the Graduate Chair (or equivalent) of their own department to make arrangements. The Fields Institute may issue a Certificate of Completion upon request to facilitate the accreditation process (not applicable to auditing students).
- Students in Ontario may also follow the Ontario Visiting Graduate Student (OVGS) Plan to obtain credits directly from the host university: https://cou.ca/resources/graduate-studies/. (This only applies to courses that are also offered as regular graduate courses at host universities.)
- Please note that the Fields Institute is not a designated educational institution. We are not able to issue official transcripts. This program mainly facilitates the delivery of graduate courses to students across Ontario.
Auditing:
- The instructors have the authority to decide whether to accept auditing students or not. Students wishing to audit one of these courses should contact the instructor first to get permission before registering.
Capacity Limit:
- Some courses may have capacity limits. In that case, students from our Principal Sponsoring Universities (PSU) will be given priority.
- Upon successful registration, PSU students will be given priority; non-PSU students will be put on a waitlist.
- A week before the course begins, the priority for PSU students ends. Non-PSU students on the waitlist will be put into the registered list (based on registration order). After this point, it is first-come-first-serve for both PSU and non-PSU students. If the cap is reached, the rest will be put on the waitlist.
- The waitlist will close when the registration form is closed. Students remaining on the waitlist will not be able to attend the course. Non-PSU students who have paid for the course(s) will receive refunds.
- Only students in the registered list will receive the Zoom link(s).
- If you have any special requests, please contact the instructor directly.
