Mathematics of Data Management

The Fields Institute Mathematics Education Forum formed the MDM4U Task Force. The task force was given the mandate of producing resources for teachers in the implementation of the new OSS Mathematics Course MDM4U, The Mathematics of Data Management. This course requires a culminating project as part of the expectations for students. Over the past two years the task force has met regularly. Presentations were made to teachers at the O.A.M.E. (Ontario Association of Mathematics Educators) Annual Conference both in 2001 and 2002. Materials produced by the task force include a collection of thoughts and activities that support the teaching of MDM4U, as well as recommendations for tracking the project, and supports for using ESTAT and Fathom. Through Brock University and guidance from Eric Muller, Sherrie Dyke and Bruce Petrie were commissioned to prepare a sample culminating project as an example of what student work might look like. It includes annotations for teachers.
