Behind the Numbers: How are COVID-19 Mathematical Models Calculated?
Behind the Numbers is our new video concept that takes you behind the mathematics in some of the everyday calculations that impact our lives.
By now, you’ve likely heard about the mathematical modelling of COVID-19 and you may be wondering how the models get produced. While the published models are incredibly complex and require a high degree of computing power, we can give you a peek behind the curtain by using elementary models and simple numbers to illustrate how the math works.
In our first of the series, Fields Deputy Director, Dr. Deirdre Haskell, explains why the latest models from the Ontario Science Advisory Table still show transmission numbers going up even though more people are getting vaccinated.
