Overview

Statistical methods for the design and analysis of longitudinal and clustered data are critical for valid and efficient research in the medical, public health and social sciences. Such data are widely used to study causality, develop health policy, and carry out program assessments. In these settings, numerous statistical challenges have arisen, which cannot be addressed by conventional linear or generalized linear regression techniques.

The primary purpose of this workshop is two-fold: (i) to provide a much needed venue for a lively and open dialogue on various issues in longitudinal and clustered data analysis for both researchers with common interests in methodological development and subject-area specialists dealing with this type of data, and (ii) to identify important outstanding methodological problems on which to base collaborative research. At this workshop participants will have a unique opportunity to exchange ideas and build collaborative ties with other methodological researchers and researchers in other disciplines.

This workshop will focus on four main themes:
(1) longitudinal data analysis with missing values,
(2) measurement error models,
(3) joint modeling of survival and longitudinal data, and
(4) models for multi-state data.

For each theme, the workshop will feature an invited overview talk and a few invited talks on some specific topics of current interest.

This workshop will be appropriate for university faculty, research staff, data analysts, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students.

Poster Session:
In addition to invited talks and panel discussions, the workshop holds poster sessions to all participants. Any participant who is interested in presenting a poster is welcome to email its title and abstract to Professor Peter Song [song@math.uwaterloo.ca] by September 15, 2005.
Stands and 36 x 48 inch poster board will be provided.
