Cancer
is a dynamical disease characterized by interactions at
multiple scales ranging from the genetic level, through
the cellular level to its eventual manifestation at the
tissue level. The mantras, in recent years, of "molecular
medicine" and "personalized medicine" have
led to a gradual realization that novel integrative models
(that couple information flow across multiple scales)
are central for reaching a deeper understanding of the
pathophysiology of various cancers and their effective
treatment. This appears to be the key challenge lying
at the frontiers of the interdisciplinary field of mathematical
oncology.
This workshop brings together an international group of
leading clinical, mathematical and basic scientists working
at the cutting edge of cancer research. The topics covered
will span a broad spectrum of problems of current interest
in cancer biology and clinical oncology.
