discussion
Subject topic:
Recent decades have seen a remarkable degree
of interaction between probability theory and highdimensional
convexity theory. The framework of the subject involves very high
dimensional spaces (normed spaces, convex bodies) and accompanying
asymptotic phenomena as the dimension goes to infinity.
Recent examples include the PrekopaLeindler
inequality (a functional version of the classical BrunnMinkowski
inequality), a functional version of the BlaschkeSantalò
inequality, and a very recent remarkable proof by Klartag of a
version of the Central Limit Theorem for highdimensional convex
sets.
Concepts, results and approaches of a new
theory developed in the framework of geometrization of probability
will benefit many mathematicians using in one form or another
probabilistic and functionalanalytic methods in their work. The
lecturers at the workshop are today's foremost experts in the
area.
Workshop format:
Minicourses given by the minicourse lecturers,
onehour invited lectures, and possibly time for short communications
and a discussion of open problems.
Registration fees:
$ 50 for faculty, $ 25 for postdocs.
Financial support:
Available for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows (funds
permitting). Deadline of June 15 and the funding decisions to
be made by midJune. If you have any specific questions, please
contact Vladimir Pestov at: vpest283@uottawa.ca
