Workshop on Covering Arrays: Constructions,
Applications and Generalizations
Carleton University

May 14-16, 2006

Organizers: Eric Mendelsohn (Toronto), Lucia Moura (Ottawa), Brett Stevens (Carleton)

Covering arrays are a generalization of orthogonal arrays, which are classical combinatorial designs extensively used in statistics and coding theory. Covering arrays have applications in software testing, hardware testing and several other fields in which the following problem arises: select test scenarios that specify the level of various factors in such a way that interactions among factors are identified. Several new generalizations of covering arrays address different requirements of applications.

The three plenary talks will present surveys on constructions of covering arrays, applications to software testing and recent generalizations. The tutorials will provide an insight on the related theory of orthogonal arrays, on computational methods for constructing covering arrays, and on the relationship between graph homomorphisms and covering arrays on graphs. Contributed talks will highlight recent research on various aspects of this interesting problem.
