Manjul Bhargava, winner of the 2014 Fields Medal, delighted the audience with the magic of math at the 2016 Fields Medal Symposium. In her latest Walrus story, Fields Institute Board of Directors member Siobhan Roberts profiles Manjul’s contributions to the public’s perception of math at this Fields Institute flagship event.
Siobhan Roberts is a science journalist and biographer. Her latest book is Genius at Play, The Curious Mind of John Horton Conway. She contributes to various publications, including The Walrus, the Globe and Mail, the New Yorker, the Guardian, Nautilus, Quanta, and the Mathematical Intelligencer, and has won four National Magazine Awards.
According to Siobhan, Bhargava “seeks to find the joy and optimize the bliss.” Bhargava “is among a relatively small fraction of practitioners in the field who devote a large amount of their time and energy to bringing mathematics to the masses.”
