THE FIELDS INSTITUTE FOR RESEARCH IN MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES

Coxeter, Distinguished and Statistical Science Lecture Series

Coxeter and Distinguished Lecture Series

The Coxeter Lecture Series (CLS) brings a leading international mathematician in the field of the thematic program of the Institute to give a series of three lectures. The first of the lectures is intended for a general mathematical audience and the remaining lectures are intended to highlight some recent important developments in the field of the program. The speaker is selected by the Institute's Scientific Advisory Panel.

The Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS) brings a leading mathematician to the Institute to give a series of two or three one-hour lectures. The Fields Institute Scientific Advisory Panel will designate a recipient on the basis of outstanding contributions to the advancement of the mathematical sciences, with excellence in research and strong presentation skills as the main selection criteria. The DLS is usually associated with a thematic program. Nominations should include supporting documentation and contact information on the candidate, and should be sent to the director.

For more detail on both these programs, see the thematic program proposals web page.

Nominations:
DLS and CLS nominations are considered at the fall and spring meetings of the Scientific Advisory Panel (SAP), and should be sent by September 15 or March 15 to:

Distinguished Lecture Series in Statistical Science (DLSS)

The Fields Institute annually hosts the prestigious Distinguished Lecture Series in Statistical Science (DLSS) This lecture series has been held annually since 2000, and consists of one general lecture and one more specialized lecture by an internationally prominent statistical scientist. A nominating committee solicits nominations from the Canadian statistical community, and makes a recommendation to the Fields Scientific Advisory Panel which is responsible for the selection of speakers.

The 2012-13 nominating committee is:
Mike Evans (University of Toronto) - Chair
Angelo Canty (McMaster University)
Nancy Heckman (University of British Columbia)
Peter MacDonald (McMaster University)
Helene Massam (York University)
Grace Yi (University of Waterloo)

Previous speakers include are: Peter Hall, Don Fraser, Don Dawson, David Cox, Brad Efron, Elizabeth Thompson, Persi Diaconis, David Spiegelhalter, Jianqing Fan. For a full list click here.
